My Pieces
An Die Musik
This piece, "To Music" when translated into English, is by Austrian composer Franz Schubert. It was written in 1817, during the Classical period. The text for this piece was written by poet Franz von Schober, and is an ode to music. The text is originally written in German, and tells the story of how the singer thinks of music as so beautiful and makes him or her feel warm inside.
Analysis
This piece is in cut time, 2/2, and is supposed to be sung or played in moderato, at a moderate pace. The piece is in D Major, and the major key represents the happiness the performer feels from music. The slow tempo resembles the gracefulness of music and the simplicityof the piece shows how you don't need to have a lot in life to be satisfied.
Reflections
My biggest challenge for this piece was the rhythm. After each phrase, I constanly came in again either too late or too early. Towards the end, I managed to conquer this issue by practicing at home with a metronome, or sub-counting the beats in my head while singing. I also thought too much about my technique, completely forgetting to enjoy the piece, defeating the purpose of its simplicity and the meaning behind it. After being told this by my IS teacher, we tried various relaxation techniques, successfully clearing my mind of any unecessary thoughts.
Nel Cor Più Non Mi Sento
This Piece is composed by Giovanni Paisello, in 1788. It was originally sung as a duet however in recent years has more commonly been performed as a solo. The piece talks about a girl who has found love with someone who teases her constantly, making her feel anooyed yet enjoys all the attention from it.
Analysis
The piece is in G Major, with a time siganature of 6/8. It is usually to be sung or played in Adantino, light and quickly. There are many ornamentations in the piece, making it more interesting to study.
